PROVO, Utah (AP) -- Lee Cummard scored 16 points and pulled down
11 rebounds and Brigham Young defeated San Diego State 80-58
Rashaun Broadus scored 14 of his 19 points in the second half
and Trent Plaisted added 13 points and a career-high six blocked
shots for the Cougars (11-4, 1-0 Mountain West). BYU has won six in
a row and 24 straight at home.
The Cougars outrebounded the Aztecs 43-28.
San Diego State (11-5), which swept the Mountain West regular
season and tournament titles last year, is 0-2 in the league. The
Aztecs shot only 40 percent for the game and missed 13 of 27 free
BYU broke a 13-all tie with a 22-10 run late in the first half
and never trailed after that.
San Diego State was within 56-43 with 10:14 remaining in the
game when BYU scored 10 straight, capped by Austin Ainge's
3-pointer with 6:35 to play to put the game out of reach.
