Va. Commonwealth 77, James Madison 61

HARRISONBURG, Va. (AP) -- B.A Walker scored 24 points as Virginia
Commonwealth beat Colonial Athletic Association rival James Madison
77-61 Saturday night.

Three different Dukes players hit 3-pointers in the first four
minutes as James Madison (4-9, 1-2) took a six-point lead. The Rams
answered with eight straight to go up 18-16 with 12:13 left in the
half and they never trailed again.

A 3-pointer by Colbey Santos brought the Dukes to within one
with 2:56 to go before halftime, but Michael Anderson sank four
straight free throws to put the Rams up 31-26 at the break.

Walker scored nine points in the first 5½ minutes of the second
half as the Rams extended their lead to eight at 44-36.

Pierre Curtis hit a jumper with 12:33 remaining, but the Dukes
went nine minutes before scoring another field goal. During that
time, the Rams went on a 16-2 run that put the game out of reach at
69-48 with 3:53 left to play. Virginia Commonwealth (11-3, 3-0)
could get no closer than 15 the rest of the way.

Walker and Jesse Pellot-Rosa each had four 3-pointers.
Pellot-Rosa finished with 12 points, Eric Maynor had 10 and Wil
Fameni added 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Terrance Carter led James Madison with 17. Santos made 5 of 6
from 3-point range for 15 points, and Curtis added 12.

The Rams have won the last four meeting in the series.
