JACKSON, Miss. (AP) -- Trey Johnson scored 34 points, including five 3-pointers, as Jackson State beat Alcorn State 86-70 on Saturday night for its third straight win.
Johnson scored 16 points in the first half as the Tigers (9-7, 3-0 Southwestern Athletic Conference) overcame a slow start to build a 46-32 lead at halftime.
Johnson's steal and layup with 11:50 left in the second half put the Tigers ahead 59-39.
Alcorn State (2-12, 1-2 SWAC) pulled to within 76-64 on a 3-pointer by Clifton Douglass with 3:40 remaining. But Johnson nailed his fifth 3-pointer of the game 15 seconds later to seal the Tigers' fourth win in their last five games.
