Jackson St. 86, Alcorn St. 70

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) -- Trey Johnson scored 34 points, including five 3-pointers, as Jackson State beat Alcorn State 86-70 on Saturday night for its third straight win.

Johnson scored 16 points in the first half as the Tigers (9-7, 3-0 Southwestern Athletic Conference) overcame a slow start to build a 46-32 lead at halftime.

Johnson's steal and layup with 11:50 left in the second half put the Tigers ahead 59-39.

Alcorn State (2-12, 1-2 SWAC) pulled to within 76-64 on a 3-pointer by Clifton Douglass with 3:40 remaining. But Johnson nailed his fifth 3-pointer of the game 15 seconds later to seal the Tigers' fourth win in their last five games.

Jeremy Caldwell added 12 points, Julius Young and Garrison Johnson had 11 each for Jackson State, which shot 50 percent for the game.

Jarvis Williams and Delvin Thompson led Alcorn State with 12 points each. Juan Wyatt added 10 for Alcorn, which shot 34 percent and committed 17 turnovers.
