AMHERST, N.Y. (AP) -- Omni Smith scored 20 points and grabbed 8 rebounds as Kent State defeated Buffalo 69-56 Wednesday.
Haminn Quaintance recorded his third double-double of the season with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
Julian Sullinger had 10 points and 5 rebounds for Kent State (8-7, 1-1 Mid-American Conference).
Buffalo (8-7, 0-2 MAC) committed a season high 26 turnovers in its third loss in four games. Yassin Idbihi led the Bulls with 17 points, 9 rebounds and 3 blocked shots.
Buffalo committed 17 turnovers leading to 19 Kent State points in the first half, as the Golden Flashes took a 32-24 lead at halftime despite shooting just 12 of 28 from the floor.
The Bulls climbed to within 37-35 early in the second half before Mike McKee's pair of 3-pointers keyed a 9-3 Kent State run, giving the Golden Flashes some breathing room and an eight-point advantage.
Kent State was 41.1 percent from the field and 18-of-27 from the foul line. The Golden Flashes outrebounded Buffalo 39-33, 13-8 on the offensive boards, while the Bulls shot just 39.6 percent for the game.
