WEST HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) -- Jaret Von Rosenberg scored 21 points, 18 of them in the second half, to lead Hartford to a 50-47 victory over Stony Brook on Saturday.
Ricky Lucas led Stony Brook (6-10) with 11 points and seven rebounds.
Stony Brook dominated the first half, taking a 13-4 lead in the first seven minutes. Hartford closed the gap to 15-10 on a Zimnickas basket with 9:41 left in the half, but Stony Brook pulled away again.
A Mike Popoko basket gave Stony Brook a 23-13 lead with 1:45 left in the half.
Von Rosenberg responded with a 3-pointer after a Hartford time out with less than 30 seconds left, but Ryan Jones ended the half with a short jumper that gave Stony Brook a 25-16 lead.
The score was tied five times in the second half, though the Hawks trailed most of the game. They didn't take their first lead until Von Rosenberg made two free throws with 8:28 left to give Hartford a 37-35 lead.
The Hawks took the lead for good on Von Rosenberg's fourth 3-pointer with 3:07 left, giving Hartford a 47-44 lead. Stony Brook almost sent the game into overtime when a 3-point attempt by Lucas hit the rim's right side at the buzzer.
Hartford shot only 22 percent (6-for-27) from the floor in the first half, while Stony Brook shot 45 percent (9-for-20).
Hartford played its second game without starting guard Rich Baker, who is out with a fractured foot and not expected back for the next several games.
