STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) -- Roderick Wilmont scored a career-high 25 points and hit seven 3-pointers, A.J. Ratliff nailed three treys during a key second-half run and Indiana overcame a slow start to defeat Penn State 84-74 on Saturday.
Trailing early, Indiana took over midway into the second half with hot outside shooting over the Penn State zone. Ratliff sank three 3-pointers in a four-minute span and got an easy layup to give Indiana a 66-59 lead.Then, Armon Bassett made a 3 from the wing just before the shot clock expired to give Indiana a 69-61 cushion with 3:20 left. The freshman pumped his arms in front of the Indiana bench as a large visiting red-and-white-clad contingent yelled, "Let's Go Hoosiers!"Wilmont exploded after having scored just 32 points in his previous five games entering Saturday's contest. He grabbed 12 rebounds against Penn State and was active all over the floor, shooting 9-of-23 from the field, including 7-of-17 from 3-point territory.Ratliff finished with 14 points and D.J. White added 14 points and 11 rebounds to help Indiana (12-4, 3-1 Big Ten) win their first road game of the season.Geary Claxton had 17 points and eight rebounds, while Jamelle Cornley also scored 17 for Penn State (10-6, 1-2).
