BOONE, N.C. (AP) -- Brett James hit a free-throw with 32 seconds left to break a tie and lift Elon past Appalachian State 64-63 on Saturday.
James led four players in double-digit scoring with 14 points for the Phoenix (4-11, 2-3 Southern Conference), which shot 48.1 percent from the field. LeVonn Jordan added 12 points and eight rebounds and Chris Chalko and Ola Atoyebi scored 10 points apiece.
Appalachian State led 33-23 at the break. Both teams got 22 points off 18 turnovers.
