Mercer 85, Gardner-Webb 74

MACON, Ga. (AP) -- James Florence scored 33 points and Mercer
held off Gardner-Webb 85-74 on Monday.

The Bears (8-9 overall, 4-3 Atlantic Sun Conference) led 33-24
at the half and quickly extended their lead to 40-24, their biggest
of the contest.

Mercer led 54-43 when Gardner-Webb (4-13, 2-4) went on a 7-0 run
capped by Thomas Sanders' layup with 10:45 to play to cut the
margin to 54-50.

Hrvoje Pervan then made two free throws and Ross Alacqua hit a
3-pointer for Mercer and the Bears pulled away again.

Sanders led Gardner-Webb with 22 points. Pervan and Shaddean
Aaron each had 15 points and 12 rebounds for Mercer.
