HOUSTON (AP) -- Jacques Jones scored 15 points and had 11
rebounds as Texas Southern overcame a first half deficit to beat
Grambling State 55-47 on Monday night.
Jones' jumper at 3:55 capped a second half rally for Texas
Southern (8-8, 4-1 Southwestern) and gave his team the lead for
good.Leonta Matthews came off the bench to contribute a double-double
for Texas Southern with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Sollie Norwood
added 12 points.Grambling State (6-7, 4-2) shot 37 percent from the field in the
first half, but faltered to only 24 percent field goal shooting in
the second.Andre Ratliff led Grambling with 19 points, while Anthony
Williams added 11 points. Jamal Breaux led the team with 10
rebounds.Grambling State led 30-19 at halftime, but Texas Southern
started the second half with a 9-2 run to draw within two points.
Michael Drewy's dunk at 8:02 tied the score at 41.Texas Southern shot 41 percent from the field for the game to 31
percent for Grambling State.Texas Southern won the rebounding contest, 43-34.
