MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Troy Cotton scored a career high 23 points to lead Wis.-Green Bay to a 73-67 Horizon League victory over Wis.-Milwaukee Saturday.
Ryan Evanochko scored 18 points for Green Bay and Mike Schachtner added 15. The Phoenix (12-9, 4-4) won for the fourth time in their last six games. Cotton topped his previous high of 19 points against Central Michigan on Dec. 9, 2006.The Panthers (7-16, 4-6) lost their second straight game. Avery Smith had 17 points, Kevin Massiah 15 and Paige Paulsen 12.The Panthers, who trailed by 8 points at the half, cut the lead to four points at 43-39 on a basket by Marcus Skinner with 12:36 left. But Cotton hit a 3-pointer and the Panthers never got that close again.A 13-0 run helped the Phoenix grab a 35-27 halftime lead.After Massiah scored to put Milwaukee ahead 7-5, Green Bay took control of the game with a double-digit scoring spurt.Randy Berry scored the second basket in the run to put the Phoenix ahead 9-7 with 13:59 left.Nine straight Green Bay points later, Evanochko scored to finish off the 13-0 scoring streak and push the Phoenix lead to 18-7 with 9:45 remaining.Evanochko became the 19th player in school history to score 1,000 career points. He went into the game needing only 5 points to reach that scoring plateau.
