CINCINNATI (AP) -- Justin Doellman scored seven of his 24 points in a 12-0 run to open the second half that put Xavier up for good in an 83-67 victory over Dayton on Saturday.
A 3-pointer by Monty Scott with 15:16 left stopped the run and brought the Flyers within 54-46, but Dayton never got closer than that.Doellman also had six rebounds, all on defense, and four blocks to lead a balanced attack by the Musketeers (15-6, 5-2 Atlantic 10). Stanley Burrell scored 14 points, Drew Lavender and Justin Cage had 13 each and Brandon Cole added 12. Lavender also had nine assists.Brian Roberts had 15 points, including 6-for-6 free throw shooting, to lead the Flyers (13-7, 3-4). Norman Plummer scored 14 points and Scott finished with 11.While both teams shot 80 percent or better on free throws, the difference was in trips to the line: Dayton made 8 of 10 foul shots while Xavier was 28-for-33.
