CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (AP) -- Kyle Wilson scored 24 points to lead Wichita State past Northern Iowa 67-61 Tuesday night, sending the Panthers to their third straight loss.
Matt Braueur chipped in with 10 for Wichita State (15-8, 6-6 MVC), which has won five of its last seven following a 1-6 midseason skid.Northern Iowa (16-6, 6-5) cut a 16-point deficit down to 57-54 with 3:51 left, as Jared Josten capped a 21-8 run with a pair of free throws.Wilson answered on the other end by knocking down a 3-pointer. Wilson pushed the Shockers' lead to 63-54 with a pair of free throws, and Sean Ogirri iced the game with four straight from the line.Wichita State led 41-25 at the break, but Grant Stout scored 22 of his team high 23 points in the second half as the Panthers chipped away at the lead. Eric Coleman added 19 points and 10 rebounds for Northern Iowa, whose NCAA at-large resume took a hit for the second straight game.The Panthers lost by 13 at Valley cellar dwellers Drake on Saturday.The win gave Wichita State yet another impressive road victory. The Shockers have already won at George Mason, Syracuse and LSU.Stout grabbed 13 boards and also had four blocks. Josten added 13 points for the Panthers, who went just 6-of-26 from 3-point range.
