SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. (AP) -- Long Beach State guards Kevin Houston and Aaron Nixon combined to score 48 points Thursday as the 49ers remained in first place in the Big West Conference with an 80-77 victory over Cal Poly.
Houston had 22 points and eight rebounds and made two free throws with 17.1 seconds left to lift the 49ers (16-6, 7-2) to their third straight victory.
Nixon finished with a game-high 26 points, going 5-of-9 from 3-point range.
Sterling Byrd, who missed his first three shots from beyond the arc, hit two 3-pointers in the final five minutes and blocked Trae Clark's desperation 3-pointer with 4 seconds remaining to seal the victory.
Dominique Ricks added 17 points for Long Beach State.
