BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. (AP) -- Chris Gash scored 18 points and put in the last shot of the game to give Gardner-Webb a 69-68 win over Mercer on Thursday.
Gash, who also had nine rebounds for the Runnin' Bulldogs, tallied his 1,000th career point during the first half as his team built a 39-11 lead.
Mercer (10-12, 6-7 Atlantic Sun) trailed by 28 points with a little more than two minutes left in the first half, but the Bears outscored the Bulldogs 46-25 in the second half and nearly pulled off a win.
Mercer led 68-62 with 2:46 left before the Bulldogs outscored the Bears 7-0 in the final moments. Gash's layup with four seconds remaining sealed it for Gardner-Webb.
