LEWISBURG, Pa. (AP) -- John Griffin hit a key 3-pointer with just over a minute remaining to lead Bucknell to a 48-45 victory over rival Holy Cross in a matchup of Patriot League front-runners Friday night.
Griffin struggled with his shot nearly the entire game, finishing with three field goals. But the junior's 3-pointer with 1:02 remaining gave the Bison an insurmountable 46-42 lead. Griffin was held scoreless in the first half, but scored seven points over the final 9:04.
Justin Castleberry led Bucknell with 10 points, while Abe Badmus added nine as Bucknell (16-8, 10-1) moved into a tie for first place with the Crusaders and kept their hope for a third straight Patriot title alive.
Holy Cross was ahead by five points at the break and lead early in the second half before Badmus scored seven straight points to give Bucknell the lead at 29-28 with 18:20 left.
Holy Cross rallied and mover out to a 35-31 lead with 12:21 left before Griffin stepped up.
