W. Kentucky 65, Middle Tennessee 53

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP) -- Freshman Jeremy Evans scored 11 points, grabbed nine rebounds and blocked four shots to lead Western Kentucky to a 65-53 victory Saturday over Middle Tennessee.

Evans made a perfect 5-of-5 from the floor, including a pair of alley-oop dunks, and recorded three steals for the Hilltoppers (18-9, 10-5 Sun Belt Conference).

Western Kentucky shot 50 percent from the floor in the second half (11-of-22) to slowly pull away from the Blue Raiders (12-14, 7-8 SBC). The Hilltoppers outscored Middle Tennessee State 15-6 over a six-minute stretch of the second half to take control of the game and a 52-39 lead with 8:19 to play. Butch Jointers 3-point basket from the top of the key with a shot clock expiring capped the Western Kentucky run.

In addition to Evans, Courtney Lee and Tyrone Brazelton also led the Hilltoppers with 11 points each, while A.J. Slaughter came off the bench to add 10.

Middle Tennessees Tim Blue led all scorers with 12 points, while Kevin Kanaskie added 11 for the Blue Raiders.
