Columbia 77, Brown 68

NEW YORK (AP) -- John Baumann scored 21 points and K.J. Matsui added 18 as Columbia defeated Brown 77-68 Saturday, sending the Bears to their fifth loss in six games.

Brown (7-16, 2-6 Ivy League) held a brief five-point lead in the first half but Matsui sank three 3-pointers and Baumann two for a 24-21 lead with 7:59 to go before halftime and the Lions never trailed again.

Columbia (13-9, 4-4) increased its lead to 65-48 with 5:18 remaining in the second half.

Mark McAndrew led the Bears with 26 points and Damon Huffman had 20.

Matsui had four 3-pointers as the Lions hit 12 of 26 from beyond the arc.

Patrick Foley, a freshman guard making his first start, had 14 points, all in the second half, and a game-high seven assists and Joe Bova added 10 points for the Lions.

Baumann had a game-high nine rebounds.
