CHENEY, Wash. (AP) -- Deonte Huff came off the bench to score a career-high 23 points and Portland State used free throws down the stretch to hold off Eastern Washington 92-86 Saturday night.
Dupree Lucas sank four foul shots in the final minute for the Vikings (16-11 overall, 7-7 Big Sky), who hit 16 of 24 from the line over the final 3:19 to seal it. Rodney Stuckey scored a season-high 36 points for the Eagles (12-14, 6-8).After Portland State went up 77-65 with 3:19 left on a Lucas foul shot, Eastern Washington went on a 21-12 spurt capped by Omar Krayem's long 3-pointer to claw within three, 89-86, with 30 seconds left.Emmanuel Jenkins hit 1 of 2 from the line with 20.9 seconds to put the Vikings up four, and after an Eastern Washington miss, Lucas hit two more foul shots to end it.Anthony Washington made his first start this season and finished with 14 points and 11 rebounds for Portland State, which had 22 second-chance points. Lucas finished with 12 points, Jenkins 11 and Scott Morrison 10 for the Vikings.Paul Butorac had 18 points, Matt Penoncello 12 and Kellen Williams 10 rebounds for Eastern Washington. For Stuckey, a sophomore, it was his 14th 30-point game of his career.Portland State led by as many as 11 early, grabbing a 29-18 lead with 6:08 left on Deonte Huff's steal and layup. The junior guard came off the bench to score 14 first-half points.Eastern rallied behind Butorac and Stuckey, who had 26 of the team's 33 first-half points, including the final 15 of the half as Eastern Washington pulled within four at the break.
