FAIRFAX, Va. (AP) -- Antoine Agudio scored a game-high 23 points and Loren Stokes added 18, including 16 second-half points, as Hofstra defeated George Mason 68-60 on Saturday.
Hofstra (19-7, 12-3 Colonial Athletic Association) outscored George Mason 15-4 over a six-minute stretch to take a 57-48 lead with 3:03 remaining. Arminas Urbutis basket at the 9:07 mark had put the Pride up for good, 45-44.After taking a 44-42 lead with 10:05 remaining, the Patriots (13-12, 7-8) managed just three field goals over the final 9:55.Folarin Campbell led George Mason with 14 points, and Will Thomas added 12. Darryl Monroe chipped in with 11 points for the Patriots, who suffered their first three-game losing streak since the 2004-05 season.George Mason erased a 25-21 halftime deficit with a 9-4 run to take a 30-29 lead at the 17:42 mark, its first lead of the game since a 2-0 advantage in the early minutes.Stokes failed to reach the 20-point plaque for the first time in 10 games for the Pride, however, he did score in double figures in his 35th straight game and moved into third place in all-time points scored with 2,046.George Mason failed to find an offensive rhythm shooting just 34 percent, hitting 18 of 53, including 4-for-16 shooting from 3-point range.
