JACKSON, Miss. (AP) -- Trey Johnson, the nation's leading scorer, had 26 points and Jackson State beat Prairie View A&M 79-67 on Monday night in a Southwestern Athletic Conference game.
Jackson State (15-11, 9-4) took control of a close game by outscoring Prairie View 12-2 at the start of the second half to turn a 35-31 halftime lead into a 47-33 lead with 17:15 left in the game.
Johnson, who entered the game tied with VMI's Reggie Williams averaging 28.3 points per game, then scored eight of Jackson State's next 10 points to push the lead to 57-39 with 12:56 remaining.
Prairie View (5-19, 3-9 SWAC) could get no closer than 10 points the remainder of the game.
Prairie View committed 28 turnovers.
