W. Kentucky 75, Troy 74

TROY, Ala. (AP) -- Jeremy Evans scored 18 points and had 13 rebounds Saturday night as Western Kentucky held off a furious rally by Troy and pulled off a 75-74 victory.

Troy (11-16, 6-10) appeared to have won the game when a 3-pointer by O'Darien Bassett went in at the buzzer, but the basket was waved because he had stepped on the sideline before releasing the ball.

Western Kentucky (19-10, 11-6 Sun Belt Conference) trailed 32-29 at the half after shooting 33.3 percent from the field, but came back in the second to shoot 59.3 and overcome the deficit.

The Hilltoppers remain 1 1/2 games ahead of Arkansas State and North Texas in the race for the third and final bye at the league tournament next month.

Orlando Mendez-Valdez followed Evans in double-digits with 13 points. Ty Rogers added 12 and Boris Siakam pitched in 10 points.

Troy's Sammy Sharp scored a game-high 20 points, while Bassett and Richard Chaney added 13 each.
