WICHITA, Kan. (AP) -- D.J. Thompson hit a 10-foot turnaround jumper with 5 seconds to play, giving Appalachian State a 60-58 victory over Wichita State on Saturday.
Donte Minter led the Mountaineers (21-6) with 19 points in the Bracket Buster game.
Sean Ogirri's 12 points, all on first-half 3-pointers, led Wichita State (17-10).
The Shockers were up 55-53 when P.J. Couisnard scored with just under two minutes to go, but Thompson's layup tied it at 55 with 1:42 left.
After a shot clock violation by Wichita State, Demetrius Scott's three-point play put Appalachian State up 58-55 with 28 seconds to go. Kyle Wilson's 3-pointer tied the game at 58 with 17 seconds remaining.
The Shockers led by as many as eight points in the first half and were up 28-27 at the break. They made just seven baskets in the second half but were 15-for-16 from the line.
The Mountaineers outshot Wichita State 50 percent (23-for-46) to 33 percent (16-for-49) from the field.
