FAIRFAX, Va. -- Jordan Carter scored 14 points, including
seven in a decisive two-minute stretch, and George Mason defeated
Georgia State 60-54 Tuesday night.
George Mason (15-13, 9-8 Colonial Athletic Association)
outscored Georgia State 20-9 over the final 9:40 to erase a
five-point deficit. Carters layup put the Patriots on top for good,
52-51, with 4:02 remaining. The Panthers (10-18, 5-12) failed to score a field goal in the
final 2:40. Will Thomas added 13 points, eight rebounds and a career-high
six assists for George Mason. Lance Perique scored 16 points and Brandon Cartwright added 13
to lead Georgia State. The Patriots were without starter Folarin Campbell, who strained
his left hamstring against Kent State on Saturday, and reserve John
Vaughan, who was suspended one game for violating team rules. The Patriots finished with a 7-6 home record, their worst since
they went 4-8 in 1997-98.
