Carter catches fire to lead George Mason to win

    Associated Press

FAIRFAX, Va. -- Jordan Carter scored 14 points, including seven in a decisive two-minute stretch, and George Mason defeated Georgia State 60-54 Tuesday night.

George Mason (15-13, 9-8 Colonial Athletic Association) outscored Georgia State 20-9 over the final 9:40 to erase a five-point deficit. Carters layup put the Patriots on top for good, 52-51, with 4:02 remaining.

The Panthers (10-18, 5-12) failed to score a field goal in the final 2:40.

Will Thomas added 13 points, eight rebounds and a career-high six assists for George Mason.

Lance Perique scored 16 points and Brandon Cartwright added 13 to lead Georgia State.

The Patriots were without starter Folarin Campbell, who strained his left hamstring against Kent State on Saturday, and reserve John Vaughan, who was suspended one game for violating team rules.

The Patriots finished with a 7-6 home record, their worst since they went 4-8 in 1997-98.
