Va. Commonwealth 83, James Madison 72

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- Jamal Schuler scored all eight of his points during a two-minute span in the second half as Virginia Commonwealth used a 10-2 spurt to take a nine point lead and go on to defeat James Madison 83-72 on Wednesday.

The Rams (23-6, 15-2 Colonial Athletic Association) never trailed, although James Madison drew to within one with 12:05 remaining.

A Schuler 3-pointer started his eight-point run, which gave the Rams a 58-49 lead with 10:09 left. After that, the Dukes (7-21, 4-13) could get no closer than seven.

Both teams had season-high field goal shooting: James Madison hit 53.3 percent while the Rams connected on 61.4 percent.

Terrance Carter led the Dukes with 21 points, Kyle Swanston added 14, James 13 and Pierre Curtis 12.

Jesse Pellot-Rosa led the Rams with 19 points, hitting seven of nine field goals. B.A. Walker scored 16, Maynor 13 and Wil Fameni 11.
