UMBC 80, Maine 77

CATONSVILLE, Md. (AP) -- Chris Pugh scored 20 points and Brian Hodges added 19 Thursday night as Maryland-Baltimore County defeated Maine 80-77.

Mike Housman had 12 points and eight rebounds and Jay Greene scored 11 points for the Retrievers (11-17, 7-8 America East), who have won two straight after a four-game losing streak. Pugh had four of UMBC's 10 3-pointers and the Retrievers converted 14 of 16 free throws.

Kevin Reed led Maine (11-17, 6-9) with 24 points. Chris Bruff added 14 points, Junior Bernal 12 and Phil Tchekane Bofia 11.

Bruff's layup and a Tchekane Bofia 3-pointer got the Black Bears within one 78-77 with 31.8 seconds left, but Thomas Young hit two foul shots with 24.3 seconds to go for an 80-77 UMBC lead.

Maine had two shots to tie the game after inbounding with 12.1 seconds left, but Reed missed on two long-range tries from the left side.
