CHENEY, Wash. (AP) -- Rodney Stuckey scored 18 points and Eastern Washington hit free throws down the stretch to beat Sacramento State 80-72 on Saturday night.
Paul Butorac added 17 points and eight rebounds for the Eagles (15-14, 8-8 Big Sky), who hit 8-of-12 from the line in the final 1:28 to pull away from the Hornets (9-19, 4-11).
After a steal and layup by Davon Roberts gave Sacramento State its only lead of the second half, 66-65, EWU responded with seven straight points from Marcus Hinton to take a 72-66 lead with 6:15 left.
EWU threatened to put Sacramento State away early in the second half, getting a pair of 3-pointers from Neal Zumwalt to open a 47-36 lead. But the Hornets answered with an 8-0 run, including five points from Groce, to pull within 47-44.
The Eagles, in danger of missing their first conference tournament in 10 years, got 13 points and nine rebounds from Brandon Moore in their season finale. Five Big Sky games remain involving teams ahead of EWU in the standings.
