Central Florida 75, Houston 72

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) -- Jermaine Taylor scored 20 points and pulled down five rebounds to lead Central Florida to a come-from-behind 75-72 overtime win against Houston on Wednesday night.

Mike O'Donnell's 3-pointer with 27.6 seconds left in overtime gave the Knights a 72-70 lead. The teams exchanged a pair of free throws, and Chip Cartwright hit 1-of-2 from the line to give Central Florida a 75-72 lead with 4.4 seconds remaining.

Robert McKiver's desperation 3-point attempt at the buzzer went wide, preserving Central Florida's win.

Dave Noel gave Central Florida (21-9, 10-5 Conference USA) a 63-61 lead with 10.1 seconds remaining in regulation. But then Houston's Jahmar Thorpe broke free for an uncontested dunk with 1.9 seconds left to tie the game.

Central Florida couldn't get a shot off and the game went to overtime.

Lavell Payne scored 14 points, Josh Peppers had 13, Noel scored 11 points and O'Donnell had 10 for Central Florida.

McKiver scored 25 points for Houston (15-14, 9-6). Thorpe had 17 points, Oliver Lafayette scored 12 and Dion Dowell had 11 for the Cougars.

Central Florida had 10 turnovers in the first 10 minutes, allowing Houston to build a 20-11 lead. McKiver also scored 14 points in the first half.

Jermaine Taylor kept Central Florida in the game with 13 first-half points. Houston led by as many as 10 points in the first half, but Central Florida rallied behind Taylor and cut the deficit to 35-32 at halftime.
