Hampton 71, Maryland-Eastern Shore 58

HAMPTON, Va. (AP) -- Mike Freeman scored 17 of his career-high 28 points in the second half Wednesday night as Hampton pulled away from a halftime tie and kept Maryland-Eastern Shore winless in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play with a 71-58 victory.

The Pirates (14-15, 10-8) opened the second half with a 7-2 run and never trailed again, leading by as many as 19 as they held the Hawks to seven second-half field goals.

Maryland-Eastern Shore (3-26, 0-17) was led by Ed Tyson with 24 points and Corey Brown with 12. The Hawks shot just 34.5 percent overall and were outrebounded 43-27.

Kevin Sumner added 11 points and Theo Smalling had 8 with 13 rebounds for Hampton.
