Va. Commonwealth 73, Georgia St. 60

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- T.J. Gwynn and Eric Maynor scored five points each in a 12-0 run midway through the second half Saturday and Virginia Commonwealth beat Georgia State 73-60 in the quarterfinals of the Colonial Athletic Association tournament.

The top-seeded Rams (25-6), who never trailed, will play fourth-seeded Drexel, a 64-50 winner against Northeastern, in the semifinals Sunday. Georgia State finished 11-20.

VCU led 43-33 at halftime, but the Panthers closed to within 48-45 with 13:37 to play before Maynor and Gwynn keyed the run that gave the Rams control.

Gwynn led the Rams with 14 points, Jamal Shuler had 13, Michael Anderson 12 and Maynor 10. Maynor also had nine assists and set VCU's single-season mark with 201.

The Rams, who played much of the game without starting guard Jesse Pellot-Rosa after he injured his foot, got 34 points from their reserves.

Leonard Mendez, whose desperation 3-pointer beat William & Mary at the buzzer on Friday, led the Panthers with 22 points. Lance Perique had 15 and Deven Dickerson 13.
