LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) -- Isaac Wells scored 29 points and Adrian Banks added 22 as Arkansas State held off a second-half charge by New Orleans to take an 81-74 victory Sunday night in the quarterfinals of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament.

Wells, who also had 11 rebounds, scored 16 of his points in the first half when the second-seeded Indians (17-14) jumped out to a 23-8 lead in the game's first eight minutes.

Arkansas State led 35-26 at halftime before New Orleans' Bo McCalebb and Jamie McNeilly went on a two-man spurt to start the second half. McNeilly had 10 of his 21 points in the first eight minutes of the second half and McCalebb had seven in that period.

James Parlow's two free throws with 11:54 left gave the Privateers a 47-46 lead and New Orleans eventually led by four points with 7:15 left. Banks hit a three-pointer with 3:24 left to give the Indians the lead for good at 64-61.

McCalebb led New Orleans (14-17) with 36 points, while McNeilly scored 21.
