Niagara 89, Loyola 79

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) -- Tyrone Lewis scored 23 points Sunday to lead Niagara past Loyola of Maryland, 89-79, in the semifinals of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference tournament.

The No. 2-seeded Purple Eagles (21-11) will face fourth-seeded Siena in Monday night's final.

Niagara, which won its 10th straight game, will be making its fourth appearance in the MAAC championship game in six years.

Niagara also received 22 points in Sunday's effort from Lorenzo Miles, and 18 points and 13 rebounds from Clif Brown.

Third-seeded Loyola (18-13) received 26 points from Gerald Brown and 13 from Josko Alujevic. The Greyhounds, who shot 47.3 percent from the field, were outrebounded 41-23.

Niagara seized control of the game late in the first half, extending a one-point lead to 30-21 over a one-minute stretch. Niagara later had an 11-5 burst that put it ahead 10 points as the second half began.

The closest that Loyola got in the second half was within 63-56, when Hassan Fofana made a free throw with 13:38 remaining.

The Purple Eagles shot 50.8 percent from the field. They were 7 of 26 (26.9 percent) from 3-point range.
