RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- Tony Murphy had 29 points, including a 3-point shot with two-tenths of a second remaining to lead Norfolk State to a 72-69 win over Richmond on Saturday night.
Richmond had a 54-43 lead following a dunk by Ryan Butler with 14:21 left, but only scored three field goals the rest of the way.
A layup by David Gonzalvez gave the Spiders a 69-65 lead with 1:33 remaining before Murphy tied it up for Norfolk State (1-0).
On their next possession the Spiders had a back court violation by Gonzalvez with 5.6 seconds left before Murphy's 3-pointer.
Dan Geriot led the Spiders (1-2) with 21 points and a career-high 15 rebounds, but was held to only five points in the second half. Gonzalvez added 15 and Oumar Sylla had 10 for Richmond, who had a seven-game home opener winning streak snapped.
