NEWARK, N.J. (AP) -- Antoine Pearson scored a game-high 19 points -- including three 3-pointers -- as Manhattan coasted to a 70-28 win over the New Jersey Institute of Technology on Saturday.

Devon Austin came off the bench to add 13 points and six rebounds for the Jaspers (1-0), who made 48 percent of their shots and also had a dominant defensive performance, forcing 17 turnovers and recording eight steals.

Nesho Milosevic had eight points and eight rebounds for the Highlanders 0-1), who only shot 16.7 percent from the floor and were 1-11 from 3-point range. Dan Stonkus had a team-high nine rebounds.

Manhattan, though, won the battle of the boards, outrebounding NJIT 45-31.

The teams traded baskets early on, but Manhattan took command midway through the half and closed with a 29-11 run, taking a 35-17 lead at the half. The Highlanders tried to rally after the break, but they could not overcome the Jaspers defense.
