ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- A.J. Jackson had 22 points and 10 rebounds and became the 10th player in school history to go over 1,000 points and 500 rebounds in a career as Robert Morris downed Navy 93-77 Wednesday night.
It was also the 22nd double-double of Jackson's career.
Jeremy Chappell added 20 points and nine rebounds for Robert Morris (2-0), which used a 12-0 run early in the second half to pull away from Navy (1-2).
Jimmy Langhurst and
Tony Lee added 12 points each for Robert Morris.
Robert Morris outrebounded Navy, 50-28, and outscored the Mids 27-5 in second-chance points.
Greg Sprink led Navy with 19 points.
Derek Young added 15 points and
Scott Brooks 12 points for the Mids, who shot just 40 percent from the floor.
After making three 3-pointers in the first seven minutes, Navy didn't make another until eight minutes remained and finished 7 for 27 from behind the arc.
The game was a preliminary game to the Philly Hoop Group Classic, which continues through the Thanksgiving weekend, when the tournament moves to the Palestra in Philadelphia.
The teams were tied at 18 with 12:30 left in the first half, but the Colonials went on a 22-11 run behind a trio of three-pointers by Chappell to take the largest lead of the half 40-29 with 3:33 to go.
Navy closed the half on an 8-2 run to cut Robert Morris' halftime lead to 42-37. The Mids scored first in the second half to get to within three, but Robert Morris went on a 7-0 run to go up 49-39.
Navy trailed 55-49 and missed an open three-pointer, Langhurst scoring at the other end for the Colonials to spark the 12-0 run that put the game away.
Navy finally broke a five-minute drought with two free throws by Brooks with 8:58 to play, but Robert Morris ran the lead to as much as 72-51.
