WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. (AP) -- Brian Grandieri scored 21 points to lead Penn to a 69-61 win over Monmouth on Saturday night.
Tyler Bernardini added 13 points and Justin Reilly had 12 for the Quakers (3-7), who overcame a sloppy first half in which they committed 11 turnovers. Jhamar Youngblood had 15 points and four steals for the Hawks (2-6).
Monmouth, which made 56 percent of it shots in the first half, led 34-30 at the break. The teams then traded baskets for most of the second half before Penn took the lead for good on Jack Eggleston's layup with 6:55 remaining.
The Hawks soon cut the lead to 52-51, but the Quakers then took command with a 10-0 run. Penn then sealed the win by going 10-for-10 from the free throw line in the final minutes.
