BUIES CREEK, N.C. (AP) -- Jonathan Rodriguez had 23 points and 12 rebounds as Campbell held on to defeat Liberty 73-70 on Saturday night.
The Camels (3-6) were ahead 71-70 and had the ball with 29 seconds to play. However,
Jake Wohlfeil took his eye off a pass and dropped the ball out of bounds.
Liberty's
TeeJay Bannister drove the lane but missed the shot. Teammate
Alex McLean got the rebounds, but was called for traveling with five seconds left.
Wohlfeil, a senior, followed with two foul shots for the final margin.
Rodriguez had his seventh game with double-figure points and rebounds this season.
Kyle Vejraska had 11 of his 15 points in the second half for Campbell, which had lost its previous three games.
McLean and
B.J. Jenkins had 20 points each to lead Liberty (5-5). McLean also had 11 rebounds.
The Camels looked like they might put this one out of reach early, taking a 31-19 lead with less than five minutes left in the opening half. But the Flames closed the period with a 15-3 run to tie the game at 34-all at the break.
