TOWSON, Md. (AP) -- Matt Betley scored seven of his 14 points in overtime and Lafayette beat Towson 79-69 on Wednesday night.
Bilal Abdullah added 14 points and 11 rebounds, and Deirunas Visockas had four 3-pointers among his 14 points for the Leopards (7-3), who have won six of seven. Lafayette, coming off a 10-day layoff, is 2-1 during a stretch of eight consecutive road games.
Rodney Spruill led Towson (4-6) with 17 points. Reserve Jonathan Pease had 16 points and nine rebounds, and Junior Hairston grabbed 11 rebounds for the Tigers, who fell to 0-3 against Patriot League foes. Towson has dropped four of five.
Lafayette, ranked fifth in the nation in 3-pointers, hit three during the extra session, taking the lead for good on Abdullah's 3 from the left corner with 4:43 left in overtime. The Leopards finished 10-for-30 from beyond three arc, converted 16 Tigers turnovers into 11 points and came up with 10 steals.
Towson, playing for the first time since Dec. 9 and in its second straight overtime game, put together a 10-0 run midway through the second half for a 51-44 lead. Steals set up a pair of transition baskets by Tony Durant and Pease to close out the burst.
But Spruill missed three free throws in the final 4:44, Towson didn't hit a basket over the last 3:29 and the Leopards tied the game at 62 with 8.1 seconds remaining in regulation when Gruner put in Betley's miss.
Spruill had 10 first-half points, helping Towson to a 28-22 halftime lead.
