GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) -- Freshman Jordan Miller scored 14 points, including the go-ahead basket with 1:42 remaining, to lift Furman to a 64-60 win over Western Carolina on Thursday night.
Miller's three-point shot from the top of the key broke a 57-all tie forced a minute earlier by teammate
Bobby Austin's three.
George Brozos' two free throws with 21 seconds to go put the Paladins up 62-57.
The Catamounts (4-9, 0-3 Southern Conference) made one last run, closing within 62-60 on
Jake Robinson's 3-pointer with 11 seconds left.
But
Justin Dehm clinched the victory for Furman (2-11, 1-0) with two foul shots in the last 10 seconds.
Dehm finished with 13 points and Alec Opacic 10 for the Paladins.
Arnold Gore led Western Carolina with 13 points and Robinson had 12.
Furman built the game's largest lead at 26-18 on Miller's short jumper six minutes before halftime.
Western Carolina closed the half with a 13-6 to cut the defict to 32-31 at halftime. The Catamounts ran off nine straight points in the second half to lead 40-34 with 16:22 lerft.
The Paladins, however, regained the lead with a 20-9 run, capped by
Connor Nolte's three-point shot with little over five minutes remaining.
Brigham Waginger gave the Catamounts their final lead at 57-54 on a 3-pointer with about three minutes to go before Furman got threes from Austin and Miller.
