PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- Damon Huffman scored 29 points and Peter Sullivan added a career-high 14 as Brown beat American 68-55 on Friday night.

Huffman connected on 9-of-13 shots including 3-of-4 from 3-point range, and 8-of-9 free throws, and finished just one point shy of his career high.

The Eagles (7-7) were led by Travis Lay with 12 points and Derrick Mercer with 11.

American only led once in the game, 3-2, on a 3-point shot by Garrison Carr. Sullivan then hit consecutive 3-pointers to give the Bears (8-5) the lead for good.

Brown, which has won six of its last eight, increased its lead to double figures with a 7-0 run fueled by Chris Skrelja's jump hook, Huffman's 3, and two free throws by Adrian Williams.

American, which trailed by as many as 14 in the first half, pulled within 33-26 at halftime with Lay hitting a 3-point shot at the buzzer.

American got within 54-48 on a 3-point shot by Brian Gilmore in the second half. But Huffman scored seven points in the final seven minutes.

Skrelja led both teams with 11 rebounds even though American outrebounded Brown, 37-32.
