ORANGEBURG, S.C. (AP) -- Roy Bright scored 20 points to lead Delaware State to a 64-57 win over South Carolina State on Saturday.
The Hornets (3-9, 2-0 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) made 24 of their 33 free throws to win the defensive struggle.
Delaware State led 22-17 with 2:31 left in the first half before a small rally by the Bulldogs (4-11, 0-1), topped by a lay-up by Everett Spencer cut their deficit to one. The Hornets would lead by two at the half.
The game remained close for much of the second half, but Delaware State put it away with free throw shooting, The seven-point final margin matched the biggest lead of the game for the Hornets.
Trevor Welcher added 15 points for Delaware State.
