RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- Eric Maynor scored six points in the last 1:18 Saturday as Virginia Commonwealth defeated Hofstra 59-49.
After Hofstra (3-11, 1-4 Colonial Athletic Association) cut the lead to 51-47 on a pair of free throws by Antoine Agudio with 2:08 remaining, Maynor hit a driving lay-up and four free throws. Hofstra, meanwhile, missed five of its last six field goal attempts.
The Rams (11-4, 4-1) stretched their five-point halftime lead to 13 points, hitting five of their first nine field goals in the second half to make it 39-26 with 15:23 remaining. Hofstra could get no closer than four.
Agudio led the Pride with 14 points, 12.2 below his season average. Hofstra missed all 11 of its 3-point attempts. The Pride had hit at least one 3-pointer in 334 consecutive games.
Shuler's career-high eight rebounds helped the Rams to a 39-26 edge on the boards.
Virginia Commonwealth had a season-high 17 offensive rebounds.
