DELAND, Fla. (AP) -- A.J. Smith scored 18 points, including five from the free-throw line in the final 1:07, to seal Stetson's 68-60 win over Longwood on Monday.
Stetson never trailed and led by as many as 16 points, 47-31, with 12:30 left in the second half. The Hatters still led in double digits, 58-46, with 3:45 to play, before Longwood used a 10-2 run to make it a four-point game, 60-56.
Lamar Barrett and Durann Neil each made a 3-pointer, and Kirk Williams provided a dunk and two free throws in the run. After Smith converted two free throws with 1:04 left, Barrett connected on a jumper to get the Lancers back within four points, 62-58, with 57 seconds to play.
But Stetson made six of eight free throws to protect its lead in the final minute.
