CARBONDALE, Ill. (AP) -- Matt Shaw scored 16 points and had 7 rebounds to lead Southern Illinois past Creighton 48-44 on Saturday night at the SIU Arena.
Both teams struggled on offense, with Creighton (14-5, 5-4 Missouri Valley) shooting 36.8 percent and Southern Illinois not much better with 41.9 percent shooting.
Creighton led 25-22 at halftime, scoring 12 points in the final five minutes of the half. But the Saluki defense kicked in during the second half, holding the Bluejays to just 19 points.
Booker Woodfox came off the bench to score 11 points and hit 4-of-4 free throws for the Bluejays, whose next highest scorer was Kenny Lawson Jr. with 7 points. With 21, the bench scored nearly half of Creighton's points.
