After trailing by as many as 19 points midway through the second half, Eastern Michigan used a 16-2 run to cut the deficit to 55-50 with 8:01 left. Kent State responded by scoring seven of the next nine points to go ahead by 10. The Eagles were unable to get closer than eight points the rest of the way.

The game was close for the first seven minutes before Kent State clamped down defensively and went on a 13-1 run to build a double-digit cushion. The Eagles committed 14 turnovers in the first half.
