DETROIT (AP) -- Reserve Chris Hayes scored 15 of his career-high 20 points in the second half Thursday and Detroit ended a 13-game losing streak with a 72-61 victory over Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
The Titans (5-15, 1-9 Horizon League) opened the second half on a 7-0 run to take the lead for good and rarely let the Panthers (12-9, 7-4) get close. Jon Goode scored 14 points and Woody Payne had a career-best 12 points and four steals to help Detroit win its first game since Nov. 28 and break a seven-game losing streak at Calihan Hall.Eulis Stephens added 11 points and Michael Harrington had 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Titans, who avoided tying the 1988-89 team for the worst single-season skid in school history. Their current losing streak was the third longest in the country, trailing New Jersey Tech (26) and North Florida (16).Paige Paulson had 14 points and Ricky Franklin added 10 for the Panthers, who saw a three-game winning streak end.Wisconsin-Milwaukee led 25-24 at intermission, despite 12 first-half turnovers. Detroit scored 16 points off the Panthers' 18 miscues.
