CULLOWHEE, N.C. (AP) -- Brandon Giles scored 20 points and Western Carolina rode a strong first half to take a 70-64 upset of Chattanooga on Monday night.
Eric Wilson scored 13 for the Catamounts (7-15, 3-9 Southern Conference), and
Jake Robinson added 10.
Stephen McDowell led Chattanooga (14-9, 9-4) with 15 points.
Kevin Bridgewaters had 13, and
Nicchaeus Doaks added 11.
The Mocs trailed 33-19 at halftime, tying a season low for Chattanooga.
Stephen McClellan scored eight points during a 10-0 run to draw the Mocs to 38-32 with 15:44 to play. The Mocs cut the gap to 51-50 with 7 minutes left on Bridgewaters' 3-pointer.
Giles hit back-to-back 3-pointers to pad the Catamounts' lead. The Mocs got the deficit down to a point three more times, but could never overtake the Catamounts.
