SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (AP) -- Alex Harris scored 24 points including six straight free throws in the final minutes to help UC Santa Barbara hold off Cal State Fullerton 83-80 Thursday night.
The Gauchos (17-5, 6-3 Big West) led by as many as 13 points in the first half. Ivan Elliott was scored 15 of his 22 for UCSB in the first half.
But the Titans (14-7, 7-3) closed to within 44-37 at halftime, and tied it at 69 on Scott Cutley's hook shot with 4:05 to go.
Marcus Crenshaw scored 21 of his 23 points in the second half and led the Titans' second-half rally with five 3-pointers. Cutley had 14 points and 10 rebounds.
Frank Robinson added 16 points for Fullerton but fouled out with 3:17 to go.
UC Santa Barbara, the nation's No. 3 free-throw shooting team, went 9-for-10 from the line after Robinson's departure to gain the win.
James Powell gave the Gauchos their final margin by making a pair of free throws with 22.8 seconds left. He finished with 14 points.
Crenshaw's long 3-pointer for the tie skipped off the heel of the rim in the final seconds.
