LYNCHBURG, Va. (AP) -- Anthony Smith led five Liberty players in double figures with 18 points and the Flames used a big second half to coast past the University of North Carolina-Asheville 83-54 on Saturday night, handing the Big South-leading Bulldogs their first league loss.
Vincent James gave UNC Asheville a 39-38 lead on a layup with 17:16 left in the game before the Flames went on a 13-2 run to take control. Liberty outscored the Bulldogs 52-25 in the second half.
Alex McLean added 13 points and 10 rebounds while
B.J. Jenkins scored 13 for Liberty (13-11, 5-4), which remained unbeaten in 11 games at home.
TeeJay Bannister added 12 points and
Jeremy Anderson scored 10.
Reid Augst led UNC Asheville (18-5, 7-1) with 12 points and
Sean Smith had 11. Leading scorer
Bryan Smithson was limited to six points, more than 11 under his average, on 2-of-11 shooting. He was held to single digits for only the third time this season.

Kenny George, the nation's tallest player, didn't play.
