AMHERST, Mass. (AP) -- Marcus Stout scored 22 points and made two clinching free throws with 8.7 seconds left Thursday to help Fordham beat Massachusetts 76-72 on Thursday night.
Bryant Dunston added 15 points and 12 rebounds, Sebastian Greene had 13 points and 11 rebounds and Brenton Butler 12 for the Rams (9-12, 3-6 Atlantic 10 Conference), who snapped a four-game losing streak, won in Amherst for the first time since 1999 and dealt a serious blow to UMass' NCAA tournament hopes.The Minutemen (15-9, 4-6) got a game-high 23 points and 13 rebounds from Gary Forbes and 17 points from Etienne Brower, who fouled out in the final minute. Dante Milligan scored 15 points. Ricky Harris, averaging nearly 19 points per game, was held to three.Brower's 3-pointer at the buzzer gave UMass a 34-32 halftime lead. He then began the second half with another 3, but Fordham rallied with a 9-2 run to lead 41-39.UMass took its last lead, 67-65, on Harris' 3-pointer with three minutes to go, his only points. Butler answered with a 3 and Stout converted a three-point play as the Rams went ahead 71-67.Milligan answered with an inside basket, but Greene got loose for a breakaway dunk to make it 73-69.Forbes made two free throws with 31.9 seconds left, before Butler was fouled and made 1 of 2 for a 74-71 Fordham lead. The Minutemen passed up the 3-point try and Milligan was fouled on a drive, hitting one of two free throws with 10 seconds to go, before Stout's two late makes.Fordham outrebounded UMass 42-33 and made 22-of-31 free throws to the Minutemen's 8-of-11.UMass has dropped seven of 11 games since an 11-2 start.
