CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- Cameron Wells scored 16 points and had seven rebounds and seven assists to lead The Citadel to its first Southern Conference win of the season, a 57-51 victory over Western Carolina on Thursday night.
The Bulldogs (6-18, 1-14) had lost 21 league games in a row going back to last February.
The Catamounts (7-17, 3-11) led the entire first half before The Citadel took its first lead at 33-32 on
Daniel Eykyn's jumper with 16:54 left.
Western Carolina led 45-44 with 3:40 left when Wells' two free throws put the Bulldogs ahead for good.
Austin Dahn followed with back-to-back 3-pointers, and The Citadel would lead by at least four points the rest of the way.
The Bulldogs were outrebounded 45-29 by the Catamounts, but Western Carolina made just three of its 17 3-pointers, while The Citadel was 10-of-31 from behind the arc.
Arnold Gore scored 15 points to lead the Catamounts, while
Blake Gallagher added 11 points.
Dahn scored 12 points and
Zach Urbanus added 11 points for the Bulldogs.
